The Thanksgiving Table

Thanksgiving…….it has always been one of my favorite holidays because the focus is on delicious food, the people we love, special traditions and……..most important….being thankful.

As I snapped this picture of the beginning stages of this years table……GRATITUDE flooded my brain. I visualized all of the important people in my life sitting in each seat and thought…..WOW……the course of our life and ALL of the stages of our life will always change the seats at our table. Every stage holds a lot of clear and warm memories of what life was like then and what life is like now.

When I was young, we would to go to my aunts every year to celebrate Thanksgiving and there are a few details in my memory that still stand out to this day. Each year, we were greeted with little chocolate turkeys on our plates, Andes Candy ( little green and chocolate mints) in a beautiful little dish by the dining room table and March Of The Wooden Soldiers playing on the TV in my Aunt’s bedroom.Those memories are so nostalgic and comforting…I think it’s why I love Thanksgiving as much as I do to this day.

Fast forward through the years and family dynamics change. Children get married…..loved ones pass away…….relationships get strained or people travel. Those faces that were once a fixture at the table may not be there anymore.

This is all part of life’s beautiful journey. The people at your table flow in and out but the memories are always there.

Cherish each year. Cherish each seat with a loved one. Cherish the memories. The absolute gift of this holiday is……you have the chance to take this moment……..to look around your table ……….and say THANK YOU for all that is in front of you on this day.
